Halloween Eve- What Scary Conversation Are You Avoiding?

Articles, Make Your Best Impression Blog   ·   October 30, 2009

When I think about Halloween (the costumes and trick or treating that will be taking place), I find myself thinking about what we are really afraid of. Why is it that we avoid crucial conversations? Not all conflict is bad.  In fact, conflict or differences of opinion can be quite healthy. When we avoid these moments in time, over time they can become monumental issues.

Timing of a crucial conversation is extremely important.  Regardless of what, when and how- the underlying foundation for a healthy conversation is respect and love. Remember that we are called to be salt and light. This means that we must be bold when necessary. The truth is that when you have to be bold, your faith can help you say what you need to say without destroying another with words of death. Remember that people only hear 7% of the words we say, so how we say something (body language and intonation) is just as important as what we are saying.

Don’t let your fear of the unknown stop you from taking action. If you are operating with a spirit of love and respect, you will prepare an environment for a healthy conversation to occur.  It’s your choice; do you want a trick or a treat?
