What is disheartening is that when Mr. Renshaw was asked about being kicked out of the race, he didn’t think that he did anything wrong. How long has he been racing? As reported by CyclingNews.com he made the following statement: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/renshaw-kicked-out-of-tour-de-france
“ I still think I did nothing wrong,” said Renshaw. “They could have given me a warning, or a fine or a disqualification for the stage. I was trying to get points as well to help Cav’ win the green jersey. I’m in the best form of my life and now I have to leave the Tour. It’s gonna be hard to get over this.”
If you have seen the television footage, it is quite obvious to see that there was no concern for the others and their safety. Any novice or professional cyclist should be well aware that this is not an action that is allowed or tolerated.
What can we learn from Mr. Mark Renshaw? How often do we headbutt others in our daily life? Perhaps we are not doing it intentionally; however, we can be sabotaging our success and ultimately be disqualified. The sad news is that most of us do not even realize we are doing it.
There are certain guidelines and rules (protocol) in races to ensure the safely, fairness and ethics. These guidelines exist in life as well. The way we handle ourselves in various situations can make or break our success both personally and professionally. Much like Mr. Renshaw we are disqualified in the minds of others, and wonder how we got there-really?
Don’t let that happen to you in the height of your career! Be sure that you understand the reprecussions of your actions before choosing a strategy that can cause you to be eliminated.
