When you have “convenience” food bombarding you from every direction, it can be difficult to choose options that give your body the nourishment it needs.

However, if you have daily reminders and effective tools at your disposal, you just may find that eating the right foods and feeding your body the best fuels becomes a lot easier.

Of course, there will always be temptation, but when you equip yourself with anti-temptation tools, you will be able to quickly re-focus your mind on your greater goal of getting healthy!

Using Affirmations to Make the Healthy Food and Nutrition Choices

When everyone around you at the office is indulging in burgers, fries, and sugary drinks, it’s awfully tempting to join in, isn’t it?

But what if you could stop that temptation in its tracks and actually choose to make a healthy choice? You don’t need me to tell you that fatty and sugary choices are not the kinds of food that your body needs – you need to tell yourself!

It can be hard in moments of temptation to make the right choice, but with the help of positive affirmations, you can re-train your brain to replace the desire for junk food with healthy choices.

Affirmations can help you stick to your diet, say no to temptation, and eat nourishing and satisfying foods. How? By replacing the negative spiral of thoughts in your mind with powerful, positive ones.

But first you have to believe that it is possible to gain control over your thirsts, desires, and cravings. The first step in making a lasting change in your life is to make the commitment to success. Are you committed? Do you believe that you can overcome your cravings?

Once you’ve set your commitment in stone, you’re ready to learn the top 10 affirmations to get you through moments of weakness.

Top 10 Food and Nutrition Affirmations

Before reading the list below, you should know that affirmations are most successful when you internalize the saying and repeat it frequently. Whether you’re having a good or bad day, you need to be constantly repeating these positive statements in your mind. Temptation will strike when you least expect it, so it’s better to be prepared!

I can neutralize bad habits with good food, exercise, and healthy living.

I am proud to reach out to my support network instead of leaning on food for comfort.

I am losing weight for me because I love me.

I set aside time just for me.

My good health and productivity are the rewards for the nourishing foods I eat.

Weight gain happens over time, so my weight loss equally requires time, patience, and lifestyle changes.

I use self-care, not self-control.

The more I take care of myself, the better I feel.

I am firmly committed to staying active and healthy.

10. I deserve a healthy body and mind.

When you look at these food and nutrition affirmations, they may seem like ideals – behaviors and thoughts that you only wish you could have – but each time you reaffirm them by saying them aloud, you’re slowly changing your mindset. Over time, these ideals will become a reality through your thoughts and actions.

But remember, you must first believe you can change. Once you make the commitment to your success, you will change your attitudes about food and you’ll be thankful you did!

When others know your why, they make decisions about things from a much deeper place. A place that reasonates with them personally.

Do you know why you do what you do? In your business, are you clear about your company’s why? Do you share the core beliefs about their purpose or why they exist? If you don’t, you will soon find yourself just going through the motions. You will feel that you just aren’t making a difference and eventually your customers and clients will be able to detect it as well.

What about your personal why? We all share that question when we understand how precious life really is. What is important to you? What motivates you to choose to serve others or isolate? Once we understand our why, we can address anything that seems to have taken us off course. When you respond to situations in an unhealthy emotional way, ask yourself why?

My husband laughs and tells me I must have been an interesting child-why, why, why… It is time we all ask why, so we can understand what moves us. If we don’t like what we discover, we can change course. If we discover that we do like our why, we can begin to incorporate things into our daily lives that will make us feel more fullfilled.

I am still uncovering my why. I realize now that I have adopted some limiting beliefs about myself that have held me back over the years. Make Your Best Impression was created to help others break past their barriers that are holding them back personally and professionally. The real work is an inside job. You can create the life you deserve. The first step is to ask why.

A leader is not born.

A leader is created and the whole process starts inside the most dangerous place you’ll ever encounter – your own mind.

How can you become a strong leader who inspires others, drives people toward excellence, holds people accountable, and instills a sense of trust? Learning what makes a great leader is your first step.

Here are some things you can do to become the leader you’ve always wanted to be:

Control yourself. Every great leader in history has had to become a master of self-discipline and willpower in order to stay focused on the big picture. If you don’t have a goal or the drive to achieve it, you can’t lead others to attain theirs.

Follow through in everything you do. As challenging as it may be, you need to be disciplined enough to be where you need to be, when you need to be there, whether you want to or not. By being strong in your resolve and resisting temptation to give up, you are setting an example for others to live up to.

Choose your emotional response to a situation carefully. Sometimes you’ll need to practice the art of silencing your inner thoughts when they’re not appropriate in order to set a positive example.

Project your goals. If the people you’re leading don’t completely understand the deeper meaning in their work, they won’t share your vision or work ethic. Every step of the way, communicate with your team to make sure they’re on the same wavelength and know what you expect of them.

Get your team involved in the planning process and the implementation of your ideas. This gives everyone a greater sense of ownership toward the end result.

Praise highly and criticize constructively. The way you praise and criticize others can make all the difference in being able to lead effectively.

Make sure you publicly praise the people who do excellent work for you. You’ll give the person a sense of accomplishment and the drive to do even better.

When someone does something wrong, offer constructive criticism and do it privately. Suggest solutions on how they can improve and take the time to answer any questions. They’ll accept your input more willingly if they know it’s done to help and not to harm.

Do you feel like you are always talking yourself out of success? As soon as you start to set goals for yourself, do you suddenly have nagging thoughts about how you aren’t up to the task or how you simply aren’t qualified to carry it through?

If you have ever experienced either situation, you need to change the way you respond to your inner dialogue. Instead of obeying your negative commands, you can use positive self-talk to counter the negativity and overcome nearly all anxious thoughts.

Setting Goals and Sticking to Them with Positive Self-Talk

Are you initially filled with excitement when you first set goals for yourself? Are these thoughts then followed by self-doubt and self-defeating thoughts that stop you in your tracks before you even get started?

It can be difficult to make the most of your life when you are constantly talking yourself out of being a success. It can be frustrating and discouraging to have these thoughts constantly plaguing you. Many of us, in fact, don’t even realize we have them! All we know is that we don’t have the confidence to stick to our plans and reach our goals.

But there’s another way!

Positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them, even if you have never been able to do this before. The way this works is that you decide what goal is important to you, and then you plan the logistics of how you are going to attain this goal. When self-doubt starts kicking in, you will respond with affirmations that prove your success without surrendering to the negative pressure. Since you’re reading this article, it’s clear that you’re no quitter and you’re certainly not a failure, so start believing in yourself!

Re-Programming Your Mind

Affirmations are essentially positive statements that re-program your mind for the positive. The moment you have a self-defeating thought you’d be able to counter the negative with a motivating statement. An example of a positive affirmation is: “I am worthy of great success,” or “I see myself in the winner’s circle.” What this does is replace negativity with thoughts that will help you move toward your goals instead of further away from them.

Positive self-talk is easier to implement than you might think. You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently within your mind. However, once you begin with positive self-talk, you will suddenly realize that you are self-sabotaging the goals you set for yourself from the minute that you make them. This process can open your eyes to exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life. You’ll feel hopeful that you can now set goals and surpass them.

Through positive self-talk you will be able easily set long and short-term goals for yourself. And when you use affirmations, you’ll have accessible tools to help you push yourself further than ever before. Learning to quiet negativity with positive thoughts is a great move toward setting and attaining future goals with ease.

This Sunday we witnessed what taking responsibility is all about. While it’s true some things do happen that are outside our control, other situations can be avoided if we pay closer attention to the details.

While this unfortunate situation cost Mr. Dustin Johnson the chance for the playoff, he did the right thing by taking ownership of his mistake. When Mr. David Price, rule official approached him about the infraction and penalty, he expressed that he was unaware of the bunker and acknowledged he did not read the rules which were distributed in the locker room prior to play.

With that, he changed his score rendering him no longer in the running for the playoff.

You can read more about the details at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/16/dustin-johnson-bunker-pen_n_682820.html

What can we learn from Dustin’s situation?

First: Always be sure to take the time to read the guidelines and rules. Regardless if you think you have seen something similar a million times, you just might be alerted to the bunker that can cost you.

Second: If you do fall victim to your own lack of attention to the rules or guidelines, take responsibility for your actions. Do not try to blame others for something that you could have avoided.

Third: Learn from your mistakes. These events give us clues and sometimes direct counsel of what to do in the future. Don’t waste this opportunity to learn and grow.

I bet Mr. Johnson will certainly be sure to read the paper in the locker room in the future. I am proud of the way he handled the situation with grace and dignity. Together we will be celebrating his future victory. He will also know that he won because he competed fairly.

My hat goes off to Mr. Dustin Johnson for teaching us all a lesson in taking personal responsibility for our own actions- on or off the golf course.

Are we a JetBlue nation? Often times when I am speaking or training people ask, “Why don’t the companies and employees get that customer service is important?” My answer has been, “We have become bad customers.”

Here is a question for you? What makes a seasoned JetBlue flight attendant throw up his arms and just say “The heck with it all.” I am paraphrasing, of course. It is easy to blame others for our actions. People magazine posted this angle to the story http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20412304,00.html

This is a deeper question. What happened to civility? When did we get this disease called the Me-asles, also called rubeola, is a highly contagious respiratory infection that’s caused by a virus. They say it is rare in the United States, but I beg to differ. Maybe that is what’s wrong. Somehow we have been infected by this horrible case of the Me-asles which has causes us to be inconsiderate, self absorbed and not concerned about the how our behavior affects others.

When are we going to stand up and fight against this disease? When are we going to let others know by our actions that we do not condone or support such rude behavior.

Mr. Slater’s ex wife Susanne said flight attendants are subjected to abuse more than most people who have to deal with the public. “They are not waitresses of the sky,” she said. “They’re here to save your lives.”

Why is it we have so little respect for those that serve us? If we treat other with respect, we will in turn receive respect.

A hospitality colleague recently shared with me a story about a situation where a guest threatened a front desk clerk because there was no room available when he arrived. He began to shout that it was a race issue making the situation even more volatile. The truth was that the hotel was sold out. Anyone that travels should understand that if you do not guarantee your room (with a credit card) your room is released by 6pm day of arrival. This rule varies based on the hotel, so be sure to do your research before you travel.

The front desk associate contacted the police to ask them to come to avoid any possible altercation. When the police arrived, they asked the associate “What can you do to get this gentleman in the room?” He replied, “I do not have any rooms available.” Perhaps, the policeman was just trying to confirm to the guest that in fact, there were no rooms. Maybe the policeman thought it was a race issue.

We have been taught that if we act bad enough, yell a little louder and complain even though it is unreasonable we can get something for nothing. This is a crying shame. It has infected our country with Me-asles. This is no outside threat. This is home grown. Stop whining! Get over yourself and do something productive.

There are many people in our nation that are sitting back, shaking their heads in disbelief. We are in a cultural dilemma. When you tell yourself that rules don’t’ apply to me. I can do whatever I want to… we are digging our grave a little deeper each day.

Rules (protocol), civility and business etiquette exist for a reason. This is the fabric of a society. It states that I may not agree with you, but I will still treat you with respect. We can agree to disagree.

Well, well… well. When you feel you have accomplished much in life, it’s easy to just continue to do what you have always done. Whether you invest in a college education or commit to maintaining a level of continued professional development, it is easy to forget that there are other factors that also play a role in your success.

Recently Darlene joined our team to offer her area of expertise to the Impression Institute. As an Executive Style Coach she takes the guest work out of oncovering your ideal style and image for your professional goals as well as your personal lifestyle. I have not had a problem looking traditional or professional; however, it has been a challenge to incorporate my personality (savvy, yet fun) into my wardrobe.

Being brave enough to work with a professional to help you find your true essense, is both scary and freeing. Today we embarked on the first of many meetings to tackle my lackluster closet. I had plenty to wear, yet nothing to wear at the same time. I have purchased nice items, but for someone else, not me.

My clothes need to reflect the real me I feel inside . The me that is ready to face the lion’s den and also hug babies. Today we tried on each item asking the question, does this reflect the me that I am today? Darlene says, “Clothes are emotional!” As I think about her statement, that rings so true. I know if I feel good in something, don’t you? We tried on clothes, decided what to keep, what to give away, and what we needed to add to make my existing pieces work for my new wardrode.

I must admit, part of me was sad to see the patterns in the purchases I made for the wrong reasons. Perhaps the items was on sale. Or like Darlene said, “What do you wear with those navy pants?” I did not have a proper answer. I said that I just had it because we all needed to have black, navy and gray in our closet.

Today was both eye opening and emotionally cleansing as I let go of past patterns excited to welcome the real me. I don’t need to have much, but I need to have the right pieces armed with the knowlege of how to make them work for me.

I cannot wait until we have our next meeting. With each time, I know I will continue to unveil my personal style . If you are someone that is looking to have more fun in your life, project the image that will land you the job of dreams or just looking for a change to bring out your best, your search if over.

To inquire about working with Darlene send us an email to info@makeyourbestimpression.com

It will be one of the best decisions you have ever made! I promise.
