Presidents Obama winning the Nobel Peace prize has brought on a variety of discussions by the media on whether he deserves the prize or not. To me, it is more about the prize rather than who gets it, who won the peace prize last year? The year before? Or the year before that? What are these people today? Can any of us name the Nobel peace prize winner ten years ago? In my mind it is not whether Obama deserves the prize or not, the fact that the prize given shows that the world is still in pursuit of peace and that must be recognized, for once we stop giving the prize then where are we? Sadly it is only once a year, when the prize is given that our attention is focused on the subject and then we choose to criticize rather than support the award, the effort that was made rightly or wrongly, by the committee in a world torn by war, poverty and abuses to direct us to the opportunity for all of us to contribute to peace in our own small ways. I congratulate the Nobel Peace prize committee not on their choice but on their continued effort and that this year’s winner will have the opportunity to bring our world one step closer to a universal peace. Thank you.
